Patrick Chevailler

Patrick Chevailler was born in 1946 in Bordeaux, France.  He received a Medical Doctor diploma in 1972 and has been a sailor since childhood.  His father was a painter and Patrick decided to follow in his footsteps painting naval battles.  He did this for about twenty years as a hobby, completing about one hundred oil paintings of old time sailing ships.
In 1996, he settled on Palm Island which is 130 acres of paradise in the middle of the Grenadines.  It was here that he was first commissioned to paint a large underwater scene. This started him painting some smaller underwater scenes which were sold immediately.

Since 1997, his painting hobby has turned into a real job although he still practices as an emergency sailing doctor.

His technique is very classic, many layers of oil paint on canvas.  Each piece takes one to three months to complete.  He uses his own diving experience, documentation about fish, coral and sponges for details.
